This weekend and next week I am off on a jolly, and may not be blogging much (depending on if anything interesting happens I may recount it later).
Then, term begins again at university. Given I am doing a research masters course, I haven’t technically cared about terms and such frippery, but being so involved in various student groups and societies, the start of term still feels quite significant to me. This will be my 6th consecutive year studying at Leeds (though of course I had a year living in Morocco, as we all remember). I wanted to take a moment to just reflect on how long and important a time the last 5 years have been for me.
Firstly, it is LONG. More than a 5th of my life, which is a big ol’ chunk of life.
I’ve lived in 3 different countries, visited countless more. I’ve had 4 different jobs, or 5 counting my internship at the British Council.
I have finished one degree and am onto my second, with hopes that I may even get a third before this time next year. A girl can have dreams.
Boyfriend came into my life almost exactly 5 years ago, and while we’ve had our fair share of stumbles and troubles, I couldn’t be happier that he’s stuck around.
I’ve been lucky enough to be on two society committees, direct two shows, produce three shows, work behind the scenes on countless others, and own what must be coming on for 20 different show hoodies.
All in all, it’s been a really busy exciting and interesting 5 years, in which I’ve made new friends, seen new places, had new experiences, and learnt more than I could ever have imagined learning when I came to Leeds. I somewhat naively thought I was coming here just to get a degree – what a fool. Here’s to the next 5 (or at least 1 more).
